I think the Tudors shoot is usually until October, or mid-October but it could be finished early?

It was at the National Film Theatre in London. First time Liam had seen it with an audience so told us a couple of places he thought Pierre had got it right,
and once he thought he'd got it wrong.
Taken is probably not the kind of film I would normally go to see and not a great film but I enjoyed it. It's only 93 minutes long and that worked to its advantage. Improbable number of dead bodies but who's counting. Liam was doing all his own stunts so the camera is right in among the action. Will be interesting to see if JRM (I'm refusing to call him Johnny, even tho' that's how he now appears to have decided to spell it!) will be doing a lot of the physical stuff himself, if that's the kind of role it is. |

Mouret, the 3rd season only has 8 episodes so a September finish sounds right. I read that each episode takes about 10 days to shoot. So 5 working days per
week...with 2 less episodes, that can shave about a month off.
Red, thanks for the extra info. Someone asked about the smaller budget for an action film and jrmfan covered it...$55 million is a pretty big for a European film. It's only the big Hollywood studios that bankroll the $100 million plus budgets, the rest of the film world does more with less. And it sounds like Morel is the type of director that gets all the action on film, meaning little or no CGI and expensive toy and explosions. So likely this will be a very physical shoot for JRM. Which he's been pining for anyway, so he probably jumped at this one. Let's pray for a decent plot. |

Thanks RedShoes for some great information. As to the budget topic, I'll bet about a third of that goes to Travolta. According to Wikipedia's list of
his earnings he's regularly getting between $15 and $20 million per film. I agree, if this has a good plot it should be a really good film as all other
ingredients are there for this genre. The more I think about it, though, the more I think this could be a really good film pairing. The production company
description calls it an "explosive encounter" between the two characters and looking at their respective appearances and body type and types of
characters they each portray well -- the cocky, enthusiastic I-know-it-all-but-I'm-still-vulnerable type and the older, ready-to-retire but
no-one-gets-one-over-on-me type -- this could be quite interesting and possibly more character driven then others by this film team.

The stuff they've been filming this week are the car stunts on a motorway under construction so they don't have to worry about closing it to traffic.
Travolta's stunt double fires at another car that is preparing to shoot at a limo with US flags on it. Lots of explosions.
I thought I read somewhere that Tudors was finishing at the end of this week. BTW Paris will be a really easy commute for him for the weekends by Eurostar. |

This is all so exciting!
I love Luc Besson, I have seen only some of his many movies (Pierre Morel worked at them, too) and enjoyed all of them. I also like the idea of a thriller and Paris ... not so excited about John Travolta, but we'll see ... Looking forward to hearing more details.

59walnut56 wrote:I definitely like the characterization how you describe it walnut, sounds a bit stereotypical but should make for a great film. Paris definitely aids in its quest to be original, I hope the script is something special to differentiate it between all the other similar films with the young cop, old cop thing going on. |

There seems to be some confusion about what's happening next week. Filming was due to start with the cast but the producers have been quoted as saying
filming will not be interrupted and also that filming has been put back 2 or 3 weeks because of timing issues. The problem lies with the local guys hired to
look after 'security' in the rundown estate they're using for a few days' shooting. They want more money, more guys hired and a commitment to
build something lasting for the young people in the area, otherwise they insist filming will not go ahead.
It's unclear whether scenes due to be filmed in other locations could be rescheduled for next week. |

Thanks Redshoes, I read a poor translation of an article on this and wasn't aware of conflicting reports of moving forward and delaying. It seems really
frustrating from a producers' standpoint. Hopefully something can be worked out. The info you provide is always appreciated.

Thanks walnut.
The latest is that the few scenes due to be shot in that area are apparently not going to happen following 10 cars belonging to the production being burnt out. The producers told the locals recruited as extras and security this morning. JRM arrived in Paris last week (Weds or Thurs I think) for his first day of shooting. |

Thanks again. It's a shame for those folks that they couldn't take advantage of the opportunity -- however small -- for a little influx of cash. But
I'm sure it's a complicated situation. Good to know JRM is in Paris. Sounds like he literally did not take a day off between ending the Tudors (where
reports show he was on last Tuesday) and the start of this filming. I wonder how hard it is for these actors to turn from one character to another?
And love getting that info Red Shoes. Thanks again. |

Redshoes, Shanti, or anyone else nice enough to respond there's a little audio about FPWL in french. I don't think it mentions JRM and it probably just
restates what's been reported here by Redshoes that the filming in the ghetto has been cancelled. But I'd love to know if there are any more details of
what's shooting, where and when. Am very interested. If anyone has a listen and can translate that would be awesome!!!!!

No further details on the shooting schedule were given. The report just reiterates what has been previously stated. Everyone is disappointed but the security
of the film crew and the actors takes precedence. Luc Besson or the production will make no further comments until police have determined who actually set
fire to the cars. It also stated that several scenes were to be shot at this location but they have all been cancelled. The report also mentioned that Luc
Besson met personally with the extras to explain the situation which I think speaks volumes.

I see this as a further indication that the global financial crisis is hitting a lot deeper than the Wall Street, Square Mile and La Defence banks.
However, the French have a penchant for protest, peaceful or otherwise, since long before the Revolution. They're passionate about their beliefs and want them known, which is not a bad quality until you start getting into violent behavior. Tractor parades, truck blockades, that's one thing. It is sad to hear they resorted to violence--the burning of cars--in this instance. However, I kind of understand that they don't want to be taken advantage of, either, and Luc Besson is in a position to do good for France beyond an influx of cash into this specific suburb. Whether the denizens have the right to demand such, I don't know. I do know that some of the things Sarkozy promised have not come through, and people all over France are getting impatient with the French government.

Well I appreciate your point of view. But my opinion based on the tiny, tiny bit I've read: Besson scheduled the shoot where he did because it was
financially a good idea and also to help out some people (he was paying them scale, I believe). So there is absolutely no excuse for the torching, or the
attempted "blackmail" if that comes to be anything. The losers here are of course the innocent folks who could have had some benefit and some
excitement from the week-long shoot. Just because he's in a financial position to do more doesn't mean he is wrong for doing something. Not that you
were necessarily saying that Bullet. It just kind of ticks me off when people pull this kind of thing and it really makes you sad for all these poor people who
have very little hope in their lives. Regardless, no one should expect a movie producer to put stars and others in harms way like this when it's pretty
clear that their security can't be guaranteed.
