There is a new listing on IMDB that has Jonathan rumored to appear in this movie, with Brendan Gleeson directing and who's who of Irish male acting.
I'd read about this a few years back but perhaps it is now moving forward? I love the idea of this film

Well it's a complicated, metaphysical type book -- I love how Irish literature has always stretched boundaries -- about different characters and story
lines that come together and interact. It was written by Flann O'Brien. But Gleeson has written the script. Who knows how many characters would be
involved. He has probably pared it down. This has been talked about at least since 2007 with Farrell, Cillian Murphy and Gabriel Byrne. I recall that Jonathan
was sometimes mentioned earlier but not as often as the others. Now perhaps it is more likely? I don't know that the original idea was for Gleeson to
direct. But the IMDB site says that he will now. So maybe it is that decision that is thrusting this ahead. So many talented actors in one place. They are all
very passionate but very different in what they bring to the table so I think this could be great.

Yeah, this isn't new rumor, but the date on it is new.
I started reading the book when it was first rumored, and while it was very complex, it was really funny, too, in a cerebral, cultural way. I found myself laughing out loud a lot. But I could only read the first half before the library needed to have it back (it was an interlibrary loan and so I couldn't renew it). I've just requested the central library here ship it out to my neighborhood branch so I can read it again. So far all I've read from there is knitting books and one on Celtic spirituality so this will be a change of pace.

This article from February has Gleeson saying he has been working on the project for years but just recently got the funding.

 I just looked at
IMBd last night and that wasn't there. I'm excited that he's got something else possibly lined up ..... sounds interesting. I too read about this
long ago, but assumed it didn't take off after not hearing anything about it for ages.  It is so strange sometimes how these things finally start to materialize...just
shows that one should never ever give up on a possible Jonny project!  Hope we hear more about this soon.

It a;; sounds very intriguing so I really hope that Jonny gets to be part of this project not just for the Irishness of the story but that I think it would be
a good thing for him to be involved in - I find Jonny a very spiritual/poetical person so I think he would suit it well

I seem to remember Gabriel Byrne saying , a few years ago, that it would be so difficult to get Jonny, Colin & Cillian available at the same time &
that it would be quite a while before this film could be done. This would be dreamboat heaven, but I wonder how it will be decided which actor gets which role.
I also worry about Jonny working in Ireland with several of his Irish friends & all that temptation. Bless him.

I just spotted it on imdb and ran through a few articles about the movie, but none of them actually mentioned JRM being considered for the movie, only Colin
Farrell and Cillian Murphy...
is it strange to dance so soon?

All the articles that mention him are from 2006 or 2007. He was not at a read-through of the script in Ireland in early December of 2007 but that may be
because he was in China at that time filming TCOHS.
This March 2009 article has Gleeson saying he has commitments from Farrell, Murphy and Byrne but does not mention JRM. http://www.independent.ie/entertainment/film-cinema/brendans-voyage-alist-star-and-outraged-citizen-1665180.html And I saw elsewhere that Gleeson's been given a sum of money from the Irish Film Board for development so he's obvously trying to move forward. Maybe he now has Jonathan committed as well? Or the IMDB listing could be nothing more than a rumor based on discussions two and three years ago. I'm sure Gleeson would want him as he's certainly one of the top actors out of Ireland right now. |

I think Colin Farrell has gone sober at some point since Alexander (not "rehab," just quit the scene, I think because of his son James, who has a
rare genetic disorder) but I don't keep up on him very closely. I don't see Cillian Murphy as a party animal, but again, I'm not casing his every
move.

It is good hearing new projects for Jonny.
The story sounds to be good. So, I hope that it becomes reality.

Variety reporting today on more definite news of the film with Gleeson directing and starring -- no mention of Jonathan; just the others listed at the IMDB
site. I'm starting to wonder if that was just a false rumor -- or perhaps he hasn't signed yet so no mention is being made.

I have just checked on IMDb and At Swim-Two-Birds is in pre-production!
 Also, the word 'rumored' has disappeared from all of the actors' names in the cast list and Jonny is the first one listed. Don't
know how accurate all of this is, but just wanted to let all of you know.
